Consider Exercise for Back Pain

Back pain can be torture and unfortunately sometimes there is no one solution that works all the time. While pain medication, muscle relaxants, and surgery are all viable solutions, none of these remedies are the answer all the time.
The last thing you may want to do when you are experiencing back pain is exercise. It may be hard to believe at the time you are in pain that moving that part of your body could actually make you feel better but there are specific types of exercise for back pain that can strengthen your back and help to alleviate the pain.
Sometimes people can experience back pain because of a lack of exercise. This is a very real pain often occurring in the lower back when a sedentary person suddenly walks or stands for an extended period of time, which for some may be just a few minutes. The person may mistakenly believe that something is wrong with his or her back and be reluctant to exercise.
If you are experiencing back pain, check with your doctor or health care provider to see if exercise for back pain might be an option for you. If so, the doctor might be able to refer you to a physical therapist who will guide you through a specific exercise for back pain regimen. Alternatively, your doctor or health care provider might be able to provide you with a list of specific exercises you can do on your own at home to alleviate at least some of your back pain.
Your exercise for back pain regimen might be one or a combination of stretching, strengthening or low-impact aerobic exercise for back pain relief. Low-impact aerobic exercise such as walking, bicycling and swimming has multiple health benefits in addition to the potential for back pain relief.
By combining these different types of back conditioning exercises, you will strengthen your back and once your back is stronger, you reduce the risk of pain and injury and potentially prevent back pain and problems in the future.
It stands to reason that the more physically fit a person is, the less overall risk to back and other physical injuries is present which is another powerful argument for exercise in general. Of course, you can be physically fit and suffer from back strain just as other muscles in your body become tense and strained. Exercise for back pain in this situation would likely help alleviate that pain and stress.
Yoga is used by some as an exercise for back pain. Holding certain positions helps to strengthen back and abdominal muscles which can reduce or prevent back pain. Yoga incorporates relaxation techniques with strengthening exercises which can help reduce stress all over the body. While some see Yoga as a spiritual outlet, for many others it is more of a fitness exercise for the mind and body.
Stress can cause aches and pains all over the body and the back is no different. Muscle tension in one area of the body often spreads to other parts of the body. That’s why the best exercise for back pain could be simple relaxation techniques or meditation. Anything that will help your body relax and erase tension is going to be beneficial to the overall health of the body. We often think of headaches in terms of tension but we may not realize that our backs can hold tension and suffer the results as well.
Exercise for back pain need not be vigorous to be beneficial and your doctor is still the best judge of how much activity your back should withstand. Just remember that simple exercises such as walking and stretching can have a huge impact on not only back pain, but aches and pains all over the body.
